Forager Project Introduces Full Fat, Organic, Plant-Based Milk & Yogurt

This summer, San Francisco-based Forager Project will introduce Coconut Cashewmilk and Coconut Cashewgurt(R), a line of full-fat, rich and delicious, plant-based milk and yogurt made with cashew and coconut. Creamy and indulgent, Forager’s new milk and yogurt products extol the virtues of healthy plant fat and rival any premium full-fat product in the dairy aisle. Based on the success of their popular Cashewmilk and Cashewgurt(R) — America’s fastest growing dairy-free yogurt — Forager Project will introduce an Unsweetened Plain and Unsweetened Vanilla Coconut Cashewmilk as well as Coconut Cashewgurt(R) in Berry, Coconut, Lime and Mango flavors. The new full-fat line has begin rolling out on shelves nationwide.

IMG_1634

The current cultural embrace of full-fat products is a departure from the fat-free orthodoxy of the 1980s. With research now suggesting the health benefits of “good fat,” in particular plant-based fats like those found in cashew and coconut, Americans have begun to embrace the new expert advice: Eat a plant-based, balanced diet that includes healthy fats.

The addition of coconut cream to Forager’s cashew-based milk and yogurt creates an indulgent, dairy-free, full flavor experience. Like all Forager Project plant-based milk, Coconut Cashewmilk has no added sugar and is naturally creamy and gum free. Coconut Cashewgurt(R) is high in live active cultures, low in sugar and offers 3 grams of MCTs per serving. Both coconut and cashews provide long-lasting satiety and are free of cholesterol. And unlike animal fat, coconut fat is used immediately by the liver for energy function and overall detoxification.

IMG_1636

I liked the flavor and texture, although the consistency is a little more watery than yogurt I am used to [Greek Yogurt] after a few bites I was used to it!

Plant-based foods are also less resource-intensive on the planet than animal-based foods and leave a much smaller environmental footprint. A plant-based diet saves water and energy, lowers carbon emissions, supports biodiversity and healthy soils, reduces deforestation, and promotes a sustainable future.

Forager Project’s Full Fat Coconut Cashewmilk and Coconut Cashewgurt(R) are available in stores nationwide, including Whole Foods, Safeway, Kroger, and Albertson’s. A 4oz single-serve cup of Coconut Cashewgurt(R) is available in Berry, Mango, Lime and Coconut flavors and retails for $1.99.

Scout & Cellar // Clean-Crafted Gluten Free Wine

scout and cellar logo

Did you know that not all wine is gluten free? The aging process can introduce gluten to wines if certain ingredients are used. I had no idea!! Some winemakers use a flour or wheat paste to seal oak barrels used for aging wines. Scary.

Fortunately I was recently introduced to Scout & Cellar, whose clean-crafted wines are safe for people who have gluten sensitivities. Scout & Cellar company was launched in 2017 in Dallas, TX by an attorney turned level 3 sommelier who is on a mission to change to the wine world.
IMG_1503

Clean-crafted wines are grown naturally and bottled consciously.  There are no added chemicals or preservatives, no sugar added EVER, lower sulfites, no synthetic pesticides, sustainable organic or biodynamic farmed, hand harvested and from family owned vineyards and farms. Scout & Cellar independently lab tests all wines to guarantee clean-crafted (and gluten free!).

I recently tried a few bottles of wine hand-picked, based on my preferences, and delivered to my door. Of course I shared it with Jeremy and my family! First we tried the 2016 Dove Hunt Dog Sauignon Blanc from Mendocino County, California. [Retail Price, $19] This organic vineyard is on a self-sustaining estate that generates all of its own power through renewable energy sources like a hydroelectric power plant on a dam in the Russian River and solar panels. The cool climate in Mendocino County is a perfect location to preserve the freshness and naturally high acidity in Sauvignon Blanc. Potter Valley is just over 100 miles north of both the towns of Sonoma and Napa. This single-vineyard Sauvignon Blanc was farmed organically by a father-son duo that is truly committed to sustainability and a zero-carbon footprint on the farm that they call home. They also grow and sell to prominent retailers organic herbs and organic grass-fed beef.

IMG_1502

Next we tried the 2017 Pios Branco from Quinta de Vale De Pios in the Douro region of Portugal. [Retail Price, $19] This winery is located in a bird sanctuary in the Douro National Park. The word for birds in Portuguese is “pios”, for which the winery is named. The wine maker plants, tends, harvests and vinifies the wines himself in a tiny cellar.

IMG_0810

This area of Douro, just a few miles from the Spanish borded, is incredibly dry, receiving an average of only 6 inches of rain annually. But the high diurnal range (the difference between daytime and nighttime temperatures), mineral-rice soil, aridity, and abundance of sunshine make organic farming possible and successful with minimal intervention. This wine is very fresh and bright with notes of lemon and a distinct saltiness on the finish. We paired it with fresh steamers, straight out of Duxbury Bay.

IMG_0813

We only have one bottle of red left and it’s a Spanish Rioja, which as you know, we love. We plan on having a BBQ with our friends this weekend and will pop open this bottle.

Shorty after we tried our bottles, we were invited to dinner at my aunt and uncles house. We finished the bottle of wine Jeremy and I had picked up on our way and my aunt said, “I have this new great, gluten free wine, from my friend” [who is a wine consultant]. And what do you know, she brings out a bottle of wine with the Scout & Cellar label on it!

The Wine club works like this: You pick the number of bottles you’d like to receive, as well as how often you’d like to receive them (monthly, bi-monthly or quarterly), and they’ll take care of everything else. It’s that easy!

If you love wine and want to try something new – something that is also sustainable, organic and supporting independent winemakers – then Scout & Cellar is the perfect place to start!

Quinn Snacks Continues Commitment to Sustainability with New Sorghum Pretzels National Launch

This is not the first time I’ve posted about Quinn Snacks. Quinn Snacks is one of my go-to snack brands and I am excited to share with you that their delicious pretzels will be available in Whole Foods Markets Nationwide starting TODAY!!!

IMG_0696

The product line of whole ancient grain, Non-GMO project verified, naturally gluten-free pretzels currently comes in Touch of Honey Pretzel SticksClassic Sea Salt Pretzels and the newest addition to the pretzel family, Deli Rye Style Rods.

14947758_1191952027541861_8465965883539540538_n-e1479397537687

When Quinn Snacks learned that sorghum’s “water-efficient” root structures require 20-30% less water than other crops, they were sold on bringing sorghum to snacks with their new pretzel line.   The ancient whole grain is naturally gluten-free, nutritious, and better for the environment!

IMG_0706

All Quinn Pretzels use a Kansas-grown sorghum flour,  a naturally gluten free whole grain.  Not only does this ancient grain taste great, but it is also a highly drought-tolerant and water efficient crop and more environmentally sustainable than many other sources of grain. As an ancient grain, sorghum’s chemical structure evolved  over time to produce antioxidants like polyphenols to naturally protect against pests and disease.  These same polyphenols have been linked to greater cardiovascular health, lowered risk of stroke, diabetes, metabolic syndrome and gastrointestinal cancer.  Researchers have discovered that some varieties of sorghum’s bran, the husk that surrounds the sorghum grain, contains higher levels of antioxidants than blueberries and pomegranates!

Quinn Snack’s Farm-to-Bag transparency portal allows consumers to see where every ingredient comes from and learn about the growers and suppliers. Where and how an ingredient is grown has been a trade secret in the food industry, and in many cases the ‘brands’ are far removed from the ‘growing’. Quinn Snacks created a radically transparent supply chain. Through the new Farm-to-Bag Portal,  Quinn’s entire supply chain is revealed. The interactive map, complete with in-depth grower and supplier profiles, allows customers to learn more not only about the ingredients but also the growers.  Quinn is the first and only snack company with this level of transparency.

Era Organics Shampoo and Conditioner

IMG_4460

This is not the first time I’ve posted about Era Organics. You might remember my recent post about their Tea Tree Cleanser and Face Cream.ERA Organics is a family owned and operated company based in California. After running into different allergies, skin conditions, lack of energy, etc., the family decided to make a change. Together, they wanted to improve their health in a major way. This included eating better, exercising more and eliminating toxins – something I am also trying to be better about – not only what I put into my body, but what I put on my body. Having a gluten intolerance I have to be careful about the shampoo and conditioner I use. Products that contain gluten leave my head feeling itchy. Fortunately Era Organics is gluten free and leaves my hair feeling great.

Era Organics is a natural scalp treatment that contains no sulfates, fragrance, harmful chemicals or parabens and is non-toxic- unlike most dandruff and scalp psoriasis treatments.

So what is in Era Organics Shampoo

  • Aloe Vera
  • Argan Oil
  • Manuka Honey
  • Cehami
  • Orange Peel Oil

Shampoo

The conditioner is made with similar, healthy no-toxic ingredients and is designed to nourish from the scalp up — restoring dry, brittle hair along the way. I love that my hair feels healthier and not as dried out as it can sometimes be. I am also a big fan of the ingredients and that Era Organics makes all natural, organic and good for your body products.
